Cardiologist Dr Saelman has always been an advocate for health care of the highest quality. In his long career as a cardiologist, he has worked in Haarlem, The Hague (Leyenburg Hospital), Leiden (LUMC), Rotterdam (Thoraxcenter, Erasmus Medical Center), Nijmegen (Canisius-Wilhelmina Hospital) and Hoogeveen (Bethesda Hospital).

Health care innovator
The idea of Care for Heart came up in 2003, with the development of RAP, an own rapid access outpatient clinic and the integration of all cardiac function diagnostics. Dr Saelman was also one of the first to be involved in the establishment of outpatient clinics specifically aimed at heart failure and cardiovascular risk.

National recognition
In January 2005 Dr Saelman’s rapid access outpatient clinic gained national recognition as an innovative concept. The clinic, which was chosen from over a hundred submissions from all hospitals in the Netherlands, was nominated one of the best examples of innovative practice by the Federation of Patients and Consumer Organisations in the Netherlands (NPCF). All member cardiologists follow trends and innovations consistently, visit national and international conferences and refresher courses on an annual basis. National and international guidelines are adhered to and integrated in daily operations. Care for Heart collaborates with other independent cardiology treatment centres, and general and academic hospitals in the Netherlands.
